Running Analyses on Your Class Specifications

Holly's analysis tools help you quickly evaluate individual job specifications for compliance, hiring readiness, and classification accuracy. You can run these analyses directly from any spec.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Looking to analyze your entire spec catalog at once? Use Reports for Bulk Analysis instead. This article covers analyses on individual specifications.

How to Run an Analysis

  1. Navigate to the Class Specs tab and open the specification you want to analyze

  2. Click the Analyze button in the top action bar

  3. Select the analysis type you want to run from the menu

  4. The analysis will begin running, as indicated by a box in the bottom right with a loading circle. You can expand / resize this window to see the progress on the analysis.

You can run multiple analyses at once - each opens in its own window, so you can compare results side by side.

Available Analysis Types

Driver's License Analysis

Identifies whether a driver's license requirement is appropriate for the role based on the actual job duties described in the spec. Holly flags specs where:

  • A driver's license requirement may be unnecessary given the duties

  • A driver's license requirement is missing when the role involves driving

  • The requirement language is insufficient or unclear

FLSA Analysis

Evaluates whether a position should be classified as exempt or non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Holly reviews the duties and responsibilities against FLSA exemption criteria and identifies the applicable exemption type β€” including executive, administrative, professional, computer, outside sales, and highly compensated employee exemptions. Positions that don't clearly meet an exemption are flagged for review.

ADA Analysis

Reviews the specification for ADA compliance considerations, including whether essential functions are clearly identified, whether physical requirements are job-related and necessary, and whether the language supports reasonable accommodation. Holly highlights areas where the spec's language could be improved to better align with ADA standards.

Extracts and categorizes the skills required for the position β€” both hard skills and soft skills β€” based on the spec's duties, qualifications, and requirements. This is useful for:

  • Identifying the core competencies a role actually requires

  • Comparing skill requirements across similar classifications

  • Supporting skills-based hiring initiatives

  • Preparing for job posting or recruitment efforts

EEO-4 Analysis

Determines the appropriate EEO-4 job category for the classification based on its duties and responsibilities. This helps ensure accurate assignment for your EEO-4 Component 1 filing. Holly maps each position to one of the standard EEO-4 job categories (Officials/Administrators, Professionals, Technicians, Protective Service Workers, Paraprofessionals, Administrative Support, Skilled Craft Workers, or Service/Maintenance) and identifies the relevant government function.

Generate Interview Questions

Generates tailored behavioral and situational interview questions based on the specification's duties, qualifications, and required competencies. The questions are designed as a starting point for building a structured interview process for the role.

Working with your Results

Analysis results are displayed in sections within the floating window. Each section covers a different aspect of the analysis (for example, an FLSA analysis might include sections on the exemption classification, the duties test, and the salary basis).

Copying Sections

Each section includes a Copy button, so you can quickly copy a specific part of the analysis to paste into an email, document, or internal note.

Exporting Your Results

From any analysis window, click Export to download the results as a docx file. This is useful for:

  • Sharing findings with supervisors or legal teams

  • Documenting your review process

  • Including in board presentations or audit files
